On 1st March 2025, the owners of Padel Zone received the keys to a storage unit in Hitchin. In an 11-week period, the place was completely transformed into a fully indoor Padel venue, the first of its kind in North Hertfordshire.

After lots of anticipation in the area, Padel Zone officially opened its doors to the public on Saturday 28th June 2025, and since being open, have seen hundreds of new Padel players step onto court, whether this is just through a regular booking on the Padelmates app, or a booking onto one of Padel Zone’s specialist sessions. These sessions in the first few weeks of being open have included Introduction To Padel, Padel and Pilates, Women’s Wednesday, Over 60’s Thursday or an Americano tournament.

Padel Zone also possesses a unique singles court, in which players can face off 1v1 on a full length court, with the width being 6m wide instead of 10m, a real hit amongst players so far as there are only a limited number of these in the UK!

The Proper Padel Team will be ranking this club in four different categories. These four categories are: Price, Courts, Location and Facilities, and will be giving each category a score out of 10, meaning the club will receive an end score out of 40.

Price – 8/10

A big company involved in Padel are Technifibre, and Padel Zone offer their racquets to rent to players when they arrive at the venue for a small price of £4.

In regard to court costs, Padel Zone charge £50 per-hour for off-peak times, which is a court booking anytime between 6am-5pm, and £60 per-hour in peak times, which is a court booking between 5pm-12am. For the singles court, bookings are £25 per-hour for off-peak times, and £30 per-hour for peak times. We believe Padel courts are lacking in terms of how many there are in the Cambridgeshire/Hertforshire area, making these prices fair in context. The venue scores an 8/10 for the price section of this review.

Courts – 10/10

The fully indoor venue boasts five indoor courts, which includes four doubles and one singles. Padel matches that are played at Padel Zone are played at a high tempo due to the high quality, dynamic courts that are at the venue. It is a huge bonus for players that the club is fully indoor, as for example, players can’t be blinded by any sunlight, or, experience the ball swirling around in any wind, both common issues with outdoor Padel.

The lighting on the ceiling at Padel Zone is original as they have been angled to not show a glare towards players as they go to hit a high ball. Also, the original Padel Zone branding across the net chords and around the edges of the court entrance are part of the reason we have scored this section a 10/10.

Location – 9/10

The club is located on Wilbury Way, Hitchin, North Hertfordshire (SG4 0TJ), and there are many ways to get here which include by car, by bus and by train (as the venue is only a 20-25 minute walk from Hitchin railway station). Furthermore, when you arrive, there is a car park around the back of the venue, and lots of clear signage to point you in the right direction. The venue is only a short drive away from places such as Stevenage, Luton and Bedford, making it an ideal place for players to meet and play.

The venue has attracted some top names, inlcuding one of Great Britain’s top Padel players Jake Bewley, who is heading down to Padel Zone on 4th August.

Facilities – 10/10

As previously mentioned, the club has five indoor courts, with four doubles courts and one singles court. However, there is so much more that Padel Zone has to offer, including a hydration zone which is visible as soon as you enter the venue, a balcony, to overlook all of the matches that are taking place, a warm up area, that includes gym equipment such as a bicycle and ski-erg, a table tennis table and premium changing facilities for both men and women.

Additionally, once players have finished playing their match, they can enjoy a hot/cold refreshment at the lounge area, while tuning into Sky Sports which is shown across three TV’s. Finally, we loved the aesthetic of the Padel Zone wall that is visible as soon as you enter the main doors – look out for this on your next visit!

Overall Score – 37/40
