A new era of British Padel is on the horizon with the Padel giants R3, co-owned by Jonathon Rowland, launching their very own tournament. This is exciting news within the British game as they are set to offer the largest prize money within the UK.
The tournament launches in April and is going to be composed of a maximum of six tournaments. The expectation is that the first five tournaments will award prize money of 15 thousand pounds each split between, men, women and junior categories, therefore leaving a total of 25 thousand pounds to be up for grabs in the December finals, if six events are held. After the finals are concluded, it is anticipated that the R3 Bullpadel super league will start in 2026.
R3 are a company that sponsor the majority of Britain’s best talent including GB No.1 Chris Medina Murphy and have plans to help British players break into the top 20 in the world within the next five years.
This will help the UK soil have a solid team set and ready for the potential of Padel’s appearance within the Olympics in the coming years. The support from GB stars Nikhil Mohindra and Sam Jones allowed for the creation of R3 and it looks to have an exciting future ahead of itself.
This tournament is working closely with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the International Padel Federation (FIP), meaning that each tournament will be sanctioned by one of the governing bodies.
Sam Kemp, R3 managing director, highlights the cup’s focus on providing junior players with a platform to compete “We will be the first to offer regular, competitive opportunities for junior padel players in the UK – a vitally important step for the development of our future professional players and of the sport more broadly,” he said.
There is a clear eagerness amongst R3 to engage in the exciting future of the professional game within the UK. They have stated that not all of their events will even be ticketed, which allows for people to get up close and personal with the elite players. The aim is to help grow the sport and bring in new fans, who may have never engaged in the sport without it.
It’ll lead into an action packed calendar with the Britain Padel Tour (BPT), LTA grade 1/2 tournaments and the Adidas HOP tour. The combination of these tournaments could be the driving force for putting UK pro’s to the next level on an international stage.
With the tour set to feature in Manchester, Bristol and London there is definitely a buzz amongst the Padel community for this new and exciting tournament ahead.
