We all love the sport, but why?

The ease of the sport? The enjoyment of the sport? The social aspect of the sport? 

These are many of the reasons why people raise for the exponential growth of the sport of Padel. Originating in Mexico it is a sport similar to tennis, however extremely different all at the same time. 

It is played in a cube made up mainly of glass and a cage on either side. The racquets are flat and have holes in them rather than strings and differ in size from brand to brand. 

Many talented players have stated that it is much easier to learn due to the smaller racquets and ever so slightly ball, therefore meaning the level of hand eye coordination needed is much lower. 

The racquet sport is played mainly as a doubles and will rarely been seen as a singles match, many people love this due to the extra social aspect that it brings. You’re typically closer to your opponent than you are in tennis meaning there is more chance for talking throughout a game. 

The social aspect could be one reason for the rapid growth within the UK, however it will be difficult to pinpoint a certain reason. The vicinity that you are to your opponent and partner plays a huge role, the constant chatter and communication means there is never a quiet moment. 

The sport brings out so much passion and emotion amongst many players it’s hard to ignore. It’s a real entertainer and almost an addiction for many. 

The phrase “padel is the new pub” has been thrown around recently, this short quote highlights the impacts it’s had on many people’s lives. Not only is this a change in society but it’s also a change in health for many, those who usually may go for a catch up over a pint, now will go for a padel game to meet their mates. 

The revolutionary sport will hope to keep evolving and serve a new purpose for the next group of youth that are currently discovering the sport.
